Second Peter 1:5-7 is a special passage.
It is not just a list. Each virtue builds upon the one that precedes it. For instance, courageously doing good (virtue) is possible because of foundational faith as seen in Hebrews chapter 11. One of the main reasons this great passage is neglected is because "virtue" in 1:5 is not well understood, but all one needs to do to understand it is to think of it as a verb, as doing good based on faith. The practical and eternal results of living in light of Peter's gem are taught in 1:8-11.
SECOND PETER 1:5-7
1:5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
1:6 And to knowledge temperance [self-control]; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
1:7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
